Action Projects

The presentation that really had my attention was the project on stem cell research. I began to ponder this topic when the presenter started to talk about the regrowth of teeth, skin and eye tissue. It left me worndering if research (if any) of stem cells for brain regrowth is occuring. This relates to me becuase my step grandma was kicked in the head by a horse when I was younger and I never really got to know who she was before the accident. If the research was proven affected in a certain amount of cases could they ever be the same as before? If we can regrow skin using the treatments why not spinal cords and brain tissue? Or is that even stem cell research? These question began to wonder around in my head as the presenter was speaking.

What has Facebook created?

Over the debate about if social networking sites (i.e., Facebook. twitter, myspace) are causing young adults to 'cyber bully' the part of the debate that I agree with, is that they do in fact encourage cyber bullying. I believe this is true because not only has Facebook begun to run the modern day world and cause many kinds of dramatic things that wouldn't normally happen it has also created a 'wall' in our society. It is evident that 1 out of every 5 relationship start online. What has happen to chivalry in the world? We have become overrun by technology. Texting has literally replaced hearing human voices and shortened the attention span of students in a classroom, as well as IPods, and other handheld electronic devices. I'm telling you this because with all the technology in this world it gives a chance to be more, courageous, if you will. The things we say and do over texting, IMing, Facebook status post and even twitter updates aren't thing that we would normally say or do in real life thus the creation of cyber bullying. Facebook allows you to send messages post statuses and chat with people. Basically you can say, do, document, and write anything you want. There is no filter that limits comment creating the idea that if somebody is messing with you or your friends you can just hope onto Facebook send them a nasty message or post a status that is clearly posted for them without necessarily stating it. This all demoralizes, puts down, and flat out hurts other students. Don't get me wrong I love my Facebook account but I have had numerous fights over Facebook comments and messages. It’s easy to just write something on Facebook and not think that the world will see it. Therefore they do encourage cyber bullying and it has almost become unavoidable.

Pro's and Con's of social networking sites encouraging cyberbullying

With my topic many Pro's and Con's have accured while researching. The main points were that social networking sites Help is communicate better. That isn't nessicarily true. When it comes to networking sites have almost ruined our communication skills because everything is done online. Working on my topic this almost allows to say things that we wouldn't normally say in person. Such as rude and cruel comments but this is debatable because most people think that these networking sites have allowed to see into the minds of other people. As a generation we have become over-obsessed with our emotions. We've been told to share our "feelings" and that has become the mains focus of our day, because of this we think that everybody wants to know every thought that races through our mind. This can lead to kind messages but last year 15 year-old Pheobe Prince committed activist after enduring not only physical and emotional bullying but also gresume cyberbullying. Sites like formspring, myspace, and facebook give people a public place to humiliate people. It's not longer just bring pushed on the playground or having sand thtown on you it's people calling names over facebook or posting creul messages on facebook. That has become this generations version of actual "bullying"
